If you go climbing or hiking in the Bavarian Alps, you will find an incomparable natural panorama. The Bavarian winter sports resorts attract all skiing fans with well maintained slopes and cross-country ski runs. The many lakes in Bavaria are a veritable paradise for sailors and windsurfers. A cultural highlight in Bavaria is the Romantic Road Route, stretching from Lower Franconia to the Allgäu. Here you can find one sight next to the other, likes pearls on a necklace: from the magnificent Baroque city of Würzburg through the Tauber valley, via the mediaeval town of Rothenburg down to the so-called ‘Pfaffenwinkel' and the Ludwig Castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. And everywhere in Bavaria there are inviting inns and restaurants where you can enjoy the culinary specialities of the various regions.

A quarter of all the tourism in Germany takes place in Bavaria. With an annual turnover of more than 24 billion Euros tourism represents an important branch of the Bavarian economy. Approximately 560,000 people work in the tourist sector in Bavaria.
