Bavaria as a Global Player
Bavarian companies set standards internationally. Firms from Bavaria are at the forefront of many important markets. One third of the companies listed on the DAX (the German share index) are located in Bavaria and play an important role in the world of international economics.
Cars manufactured by BMW and Audi as well as lorries and buses produced by MAN are world-famous for technical perfection and automotive progress. The international technology company Siemens can be found in 190 countries of the world and is one of the leaders when it comes to providing information technology, constructing power stations and other plants, and developing medical technology.
Where aerospace technology is concerned, EADS is at the forefront with the Airbus aeroplane, Eurocoptor helicopters, the Ariane carrier rocket, as well as state-of-the-art information and communication satellites. The decision by Linde to relocate the firm's headquarters to Munich will make Munich the seat of one of the world's leading gas and plant construction companies. In addition, the two leading companies from the insurance sectors are based in Munich: the Allianz group, one of the largest insurance groups world-wide, and Munich Re, the biggest re-insurance company in the world. And Adidas in Herzogenaurach is the second largest manufacturer of sports goods in the world.
Many international firms consider Bavaria to be a prime choice location. General Electric, Sandoz, Roche and Pfizer are just some of the international companies that have established new branches in Bavaria, thereby creating new jobs. Every year Bavaria attracts foreign investments totalling approximately 50 billion Euros.
No fewer than 1,500 foreign firms have chosen Bavaria as a location. Bavaria's advantages internationally are first and foremost its well-developed infrastructure, its high-tech competence, its reliable basic conditions for firms, and an economically favourable climate. Apart from these, so-called "soft location factors", such a high level of inner security, an intact countryside with wonderful leisure-time opportunities, and a rich historical heritage, also contribute to Bavaria's success in attracting companies.
